April 10, 2025 - Pieper High School Valedictorian Caroline Peterson gives us an inside look into her high school experience in a graduation Q+A.
How did you find out you were Valedictorian?
I was at a track meet, and while I was high jumping my coach began to get a phone call. At first he declined because he was recording my jump, but another coach accepted the call and handed it to me after my event finished. Principal Alvarez-Calderon said congratulations, and announced that I was the official Valedictorian. It was a very close race, so hearing that was reassuring!
Can you share what your speech is going to be about?
I for sure will bring up a few inside jokes from the class of 2025 at Pieper. Besides that, I will be giving my thanks back to my community to show my appreciation for all they have done to support me, as well as try to inspire others.
Describe the entirety of your high school experience in one word.
Busy.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I think my superpower would be reading people's minds, because it would be good to know what people are truly thinking, not just what they are saying.
What's your favorite way to relax?
Honestly, just sitting down with a good movie or good book. Maybe even taking a warm bath to relax my muscles after a long day.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be?
I would pick a high profile athlete like Simone Biles, someone who is known for their strength and determination. It is inspiring to see her come back after injuries and I think it would be really interesting to hear her story. We would eat a high protein meal at Cava.
Who would you say is your biggest supporter? Why?
Definitely my parents. My dad motivates me in my sports and my mom makes sure that I am emotionally supported with my hectic schedule.
If your high school experience was a movie/song, what movie/song would it be?
“As it Was” by Harry Styles. The song talks about how we go through so many changes in life, but it’s gonna be okay. I think it is important to know growing up in high school that where you end up is where you are meant to be.
What are your plans after graduation?
I will be running track at the University of Texas at Austin. This summer I plan to work out a ton and by mid August I will be practicing with the team. While at UT Austin, I intend on majoring in biology with the hopes to go to medical school and become a dermatologist!
What's a piece of advice you'd give your younger self?
I would tell her to not stress too much. I am someone who over prepares or always feels underprepared, so I would tell her that it is going to be okay and I do not need to stress myself.
Thank you Caroline Peterson for Growing Greatness on your Path to Success!
