September 24, 2026 - Kindergarten teacher Marcia Pittman opened Timberwood Park Elementary in August of 2008 with nearly 21 years of kindergarten teaching experience. Now, 18 years later, Pittman finds herself starting the school year with her 40th kindergarten class.
When Pittman completed her student teaching program, she didn’t expect to begin her career teaching kindergarten, let alone for 40 years.
“I can't say I was inspired to be a kindergarten teacher,” says Pittman, whose mother was a middle school teacher. “It just so happened that every school I taught at, they needed a kindergarten teacher. After so long, I invested so much time and money into the grade level and my classroom, it just made sense to continue.”
Pittman’s own children attended Timberwood Park Elementary and graduated from Smithson Valley High School. Just like how Pittman was inspired to teach from her mother, Pittman’s son, Hunter, also found inspiration from her teaching career.
“My mom introduced me to the world of teaching, and what inspired me the most is how good she is with people,” explains Hunter Pittman, Pieper Ranch Middle School theatre arts teacher. “I love being a theater teacher because it's helped me become a better people-person and has allowed me to learn more about the kids.”
Just like she did for her own son, Pittman has spent the last 40 years setting her kindergarteners up for success and inspiring them to love school. From Kindergarten Shoebox Parades to Senior Walks, Marcia has witnessed her students go from learning to write their name to attending universities and starting families of their own.
During the school year, Pittman works hard to establish routines and foundational classroom practices through consistency - like walking in line and raising your hand during class.
“By the end of the school year, they're pretty independent and can do pretty much anything,” explains Pittman. “My goal is that they love school and they're ready to come back even though they won’t be in my class.”
Timberwood Park Elementary is honored to have a teacher so dedicated to her craft, inspiring our students. After 39 years, Marcia Pittman is still putting her students first and working hard to instill a love for learning in each kindergartener's heart, and with the addition of her son at Pieper Ranch Middle School, Comal ISD is proud to be home to the Pittman family legacy in teaching.
