October 26, 2026 - The Comal ISD Board of Trustees approved the naming of the new Life Bridges East campus, the Dan Krueger Building, during its meeting on October 22.
It is being named after Krueger, a longtime community volunteer who served as a Comal ISD Board of Trustee for 15 years and on the board of the Comal Education Foundation for 20 years.
Krueger was surprised by the announcement.
“I was quite shocked,” Krueger says. “I have a connection with Life Bridges,” explaining that he worked with the program 10 years ago as a master gardener, helping team members establish and learn about gardens.
The new building, located next to Goodwin Frazier Elementary School in New Braunfels, will house the district’s Life Bridges Transition program which serves young adults with disabilities ages 18 to 21. It provides them with instructional pathways and community-based experiences for independence. The program was established in 2002. The new building will open in the spring of 2027.
As part of its naming process, the district formed a Facility Naming Committee which consisted of representatives from the Life Bridges program that reviewed names and made a recommendation to the board.
In his nomination, Krueger was called, “a lifelong champion of public service,” and it went on to say, “He has earned the respect of educators, business leaders, elected officials and residents through his unwavering commitment to improving the community he calls home.”
Comal ISD Executive Director of Special Education Michele Martella is excited that the new building will bear his name.
“This is a tribute to Mr. Krueger’s leadership and, more importantly, to the relationships and opportunities that have defined his service,” Martella says. “His legacy will live on through the students who learn, work, build relationships and discover their potential within those walls.”
A few of Krueger’s honors and achievements include being named an Opa Emeritus of Wurstfest and a Comal Master Gardener Emeritus, and he received the Melvin Jones Fellow award from the New Braunfels Noon Lions Club.
He has been married to his wife Becky for 51 years, and they have three daughters and four grandchildren.
