Jan. 27, 2021 - Two seniors in the Comal Independent School District earned the prestigious honor of being named a Texas All-State Musician on Jan. 16.
A percussionist in the Canyon High School band, Joey Aldrich, has earned this honor two years in a row, capping off his high school career. This is the first all-state honor for Tyler Dickens who plays the clarinet for the Canyon Lake High School band.
Aldrich competed in the 6A division with more than 50,000 students from around the state. Only 1,816 of those students were selected for the 2021 all-state honors through the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA).
Dickens competed in the 4A division through the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB). He was among 10,000 high school band students from across Texas who auditioned, and only 306 were selected for all-state honors.
The TMEA will not host a 2021 performance this year, but the ATSSB All-State Bands will present a concert at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 12, in the Melissa Performance Hall in Melissa, Texas.
